Alex Bobenrieth: "Yveltal/Zoroark/Gallade (YZG) had been a mainstay in the 2015-2016 standard format since very early in the season, but all credit belongs to ...Paul Yeung, Nathian Beck and Bodhi Tracy for this list in particular. Gallade was a very powerful (and often underrated) attacker, being able to at least two-shot everything in the format, hitting Manectric and Darkrai for weakness and knocking out Shaymin-EX in one hit even when accounting for resistance. Very few decks were able to keep up with Gallade swinging at them for Fighting weakness as early as the second turn of the game, and this list aimed to capitalize on that by being designed to use Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick as many times as possible to overwhelm opponents with an army of 150 HP Gallades. Puzzle of Time helped the deck's longevity in the mid-late game, and could even combo with Battle Compressor for a Maxie's early game, or even to search out crucial combo pieces by dumping them into the discard with Battle Compressor, followed by retrieving them with a pair of Puzzle of Time. The deck ran 2 Bursting Balloon, which while mostly used to help keep up in the prize race against Night March, could also set up interesting math for KOs in other matchups, or be used to discourage opponents from targeting certain Pokémon down. The deck was not without its flaws however, (an abysmal Greninja matchup being one of them), but the Zoroark line could easily be swapped out for Garbodor if Greninja was that big of an expected issue. Perhaps the deck's biggest strength however, was its ability to play like an entirely single-prize deck so long as the player piloting it managed to keep Shaymin-EX and Yveltal-EX off of their board. This was exacerbated by the format's general reliance on Pokémon-EX as attackers, but also the abundance of Shaymin-EX even in the few decks that boasted non-EX Pokémon as their main attackers (with the exception of Greninja)."
