New Year, Another Flip
• "This Pokémon brings victory. It is said that Trainers with Victini always win, regardless of the type of encounter." ~ Black & White Pokédex entry
As we enter the New Year, what better Pokémon to celebrate than the Victory Pokémon that gives you luck and second chances! Before we dive into some of Victini's history in the card game, I'd first like to take a second to thank everyone for an amazing first year of PTCG Legend's life! This website was initially just a school project, and now... it's far bigger than I ever imagined! So, thank you for all the continued support!
Victini (98 Noble Victories) is often times overlooked by its counterparts. But to my surprise, while looking back at lists, Victory Star Victini found its way into more lists than any other Victini card ever printed... even topping Victini ♢ (DRM) & Victini V (SSH)!
Sure, Victini ♢ & Victini V were far more succesful cards, in that they were both key attackers and each found their way into major event-winning decklists. But Victory Star Victini was a far more viable card and found it's way into all sorts of archetypes throughout its legality. But no other archetype more than annoying decks. 😈
Have a look at some of the decks that included this awesome little Pokémon spanning multiple formats:
Watchlock (2013 BW-PLF):
Marowak (2012 HGSS-DEX):

VVV (2012 HGSS-NXD):
Mew Box (2011 HGSS-NVI):
The above lists aren't even every example... I just grabbed one deck from each respective format that Victini was a part of. Below you can find other lists to save you time from searching for yourself.

2012 HGSS - NXD:
• Mew Box
2011 HGSS - NVI:
• Donk
• Sharpedo
• VVV
If you couldn't tell, Victini wasn't used for its attack, just its Ability. Any deck that had any form of coin-flip attack from 2011-2013, (and even some later expanded decks), would usually find theirselves considering including this Victini in their lists. But because of it lacking a decent attack, (and not having a free retreat cost even), Victory Star Victini was usually nothing more than just a "what if" thought for most deckbuilders.
Did you ever include Victory Star Victini in a deck that I don't have archived, now's your chance to show me and it may just be added to the site! Please email me or tag me on twitter X with your deck!
Thanks for checking out this Card of the Month entry on New Years, sorry for not having one for Christmas, I was quite busy after San Antonio Regionals. Which reminds me, ANYONE can submit a "Card of the Month" article, just message me and I'll 99.999% approve it.
